Animals Adoption (Re-home) Programme

One of TSPCAงs 6 key strategies in dealing with stray animals is the Adoption and Re-homing Programme. Its prime objective is as follows:

  • To open opportunities to people in general to have a part in alleviating the suffering of stray animals;
  • To develop the stray animals’quality of life and their capacity for further adoption and re-homing;
  • To generate better natural environment and provide public health to communities in cooperation with the governmental sector and BMA.
  • To act as a centre of information and cooperation among members of TSPCA’s stray animal sheltering providers and those who wish to adopt and support.
Main Activities
  1. Conduct a survey of the stray animal population in the big cities to create baseline data.
  2. For efficient management, the stray animal shelter providers are to be organized into groups on the condition that:
  3. TSPCA”s regular distribution of food, medicine and other necessities donated by the public to the groups registered with TSPCA.
  4. Development of cooperation with animal clinics to provide medical treatment to stray animals especially those listed with TSPCA.
  5. Development of relationship and cooperation with veterinary students of various universities to act as TSPCA’s volunteers to support the launch of mobile clinics.
  6. Organizing Capacity Building for stray animal shelter providers so that they are fully equipped with knowledge and basic technical know – how on proper care of animals.
  7. Expansion of animal care shelters to cover other parts of the country i.e., tourist centres and industrial cities.
  8. Organizing “Mobile Clinics” to provide animal care service i.e., vaccination, neutering etc. to various communities.
  9. Coordination with various local and international animal organizations for better management of stray animals on the streets of Thailand’s major cities.
  10. Acting as a centre of claims on animals and coordinating with those rescue and relief organizations to alleviate the suffering of animals.
  11. Organising an adoption and re-homing for stray animals.
  12. Acting as a centre of a “HELPING HAND” to receive donations, i.e., food, medicine, animal accessories including financial support for distribution to stray animals under TSPCA’s care.
The Condition for the Stray Animals Shelter Providers
  1. They must be officially registered as TSPCA’s network;
  2. At least 30 stray animals are under their care;
  3. Their shelters must be fully equipped with animal care facilities with wall and roof to provide shade, protect sun and rainfall and to provide safety to animals.
  4. The established shelter must be run under good management with routine staff;
  5. The stray animals are to be raised and cared for for non-commercial purposes;
  6. The donated items such as food, medicine and other animal accessories provided by TSPCA are not allowed to be used for commercial re – sale;
  7. The providers must be willing to render their cooperation to TSPCA ‘s efforts to end cruelty to animals and to protect animal rights and welfares.
  8. The shelter owners must be willing to provide more spaces for other displaced animals moved from streets to replace those already re – homed.
